Question: How is it working with Mimmy Adventure?
Answer: Working with Mimmy Adventure is awesome. I really enjoy what I do especially speaking English which I rarely speak these days living in a foreign country. I enjoy the interaction with the kids especially when they smile and they make progress.
Question: What kids’ reactions make you the happiest?
Answer: With lego, it’s easy to have them react especially when you add playfulness, emotional characters, and silly voices which they become so happy to hear.
Question: How easy is it for you to come up with your interesting lego content?
Answer: It’s pretty easy for me especially when I make legos inspired by colours and shapes. The ideas come pretty easy, especially the simple ideas of flying vehicles or the space vehicles although my favourite thing is making the funny faces, the robots and emotional characters. I feel that I have plenty of ideas for the future.
Answer: Yes. Things have gotten easier with time especially when I changed the format of how I do things. I have also gained a lot of confidence with time as compared to when I started and I was nervous. Going live was a bit stressful in the beginning and now it has started to feel natural.
Question: Have you ever tried YouTube or anything like that?
Answer: I do a bit of animation work and video editing on the side but I haven’t produced any. I would like to but I feel like there is a lot involved in making the script so that you have a good concept.
Question: I am curious to know what made you want to join Mimmy Adventure instead of joining YouTube ?
Answer: I would say that I am attracted to Mimmy Adventure by the interactions and the reactions that are instant from the kids. This makes me feel it’s easier to perform and make it natural than trying to be a perfectionist on content like one does on YouTube. I choose Mimmy since going on a live performance sharpens my skills in speaking to kids and in front of people.
Question: How do you perceive the future of the kids that take your adventure, since they really look up to the guides so much?
Answer: They have a great opportunity to connect with other cultures or learn English which is a global requirement, but with Mimmy, they actually learn all sorts of things and this is a very positive and interesting thing to do. I wish I had such an opportunity as a kid too.
Answer: Definitely. It only takes you simple steps of putting a couple of bricks together and creating something simple in recognition of insect parts or something similar to that. The more you interchange parts, the more room you give the kids’ imaginations to guess what the outcome is. Fresh ideas motivate the kids to want to build the Legos on their own. I have taught them some language that semi-professionals use too when they are building up Legos which is interesting too.
Question: How do you find the working lifestyle at Mimmy similar or different from other work?
Answer: It brightens my day mainly due to those smiles from kids. Also, it’s flexible since it only takes a very small part of my day and I have time to do family chores. This is different from an office job that requires you to read emails first thing in the morning.
Question: How is the flexibility, despite the time zone differences?
Answer: I am not distracted by time zone differences since I am able to plan my work ahead in a week and spare a lot of time for other activities not work-related.
Question: I have heard you mention that you wish you had a platform like Mimmy while you were young. Do you think if we launched it in Germany it would be popular?
Answer: Yes. This would be very interesting, especially in non-English speaking countries. Tapping into another country’s culture for about 10 minutes would be something so interesting and would be very cool if it’s incorporated into classroom sessions. Kids value anything that is life and it becomes more memorable than simple films that we watched at schools in the past. So Mimmy would be very popular indeed.
Question: Since you mentioned you would have wanted to learn about Japan when you were young, do you feel like this platform helps you connect to Japanese culture as well?
Answer: Yes in reverse, I pick up something about Japan from interacting with the kids each time. I was a great fan of Japanese films and movies while I was a kid. Now seeing the kids especially when they are watching my adventures and I can see through their windows and I feel like I have been transported there too. This is so interesting for me.
Question: What kind of message do you have for these people who want to apply to work as guides at Mimmy Adventures?
Answer: Give it a try, and realise you never know how it feels to give a session until you try. Also, make it fun for yourself and the kids will enjoy it as a result.
Question: Lastly, at Mimmy Adventures we have a lot of characters at Mimmy, such as Kuma, reddy chan etc. Who is your favourite?
Answer: My favourite is Mimmy chan since she always brightens up the adventures so well.
Overall Arran is passionate about what he does at Mimmy Adventures, and he feels he also gets the chance to connect with Japanese culture and fulfil a childhood wish of his!
