How Mimmy Adventure has helped Jordi live his exciting, free-spirited lifestyle

For all the travel fans out there, as well as those who have yet to figure it out how they want to travel, here is our guide who lives and travels the world in a van! This is not the only thing he does; he is also talented in juggling and highlining. The kids at Mimmy Adventure travel the world with him, and they not only learn about Spanish culture, but they also learn about many other cultures too; since Jordi is always on the move!

Interviewer: What’s it like working with Mimmy?

Jordi: It's very good. It gives me time to do other things, and it allows me to keep on traveling and living in the van. For me, it's great that it's an online job where I can keep traveling in my van and living my life. It's not my only job, but it helps Having the extra payment is good.

Interviewer: I'm curious, what is your other job?

Jordi: I'm also an online Spanish teacher. I gave some lessons to one of the Mimmy kids!

Interviewer: Out of curiosity, which do you find more fun; teaching Spanish in a regular setting, or doing these adventures?

Jordi: I like both of them. This is faster, and I have to be more energetic, more active. So, depending on the day, if I'm tired, I may not be so energetic. If I do a lot of Spanish lessons, like for several hours a day, it can be boring! So both of them are good. But I normally do the adventures in the morning, so I have more energy; because if I had to do them at the end of my day, I don’t think I could!

Interviewer: How easy is it to think of content ideas?

Jordi: Well, actually now it's already been a year since I joined Mimmy, and when I started, it was very easy because I showed all the things I like to do, like my hobbies. So it was easy to show it to the kids. But now for me, I'm struggling a little bit more because it's already been a year! It's not nice to always show them the same content, so I'm trying to think of new content. So now, after a year, I'm struggling a little bit, but starting out it was super easy to find ideas, because I do a lot of this stuff; I like to juggle or play music, and highline is my main thing, for example. I enjoy it, so we’d do it on a daily basis. So it's not very hard for me to think of these ideas to show to the kids.

Interviewer: How does it feel being able to do content which is related to your passion?

Jordi: Awesome. I mean, it's amazing to have this kind of opportunity! Not everyone can do it. You don't have to wake up at eight and go work in a restaurant, for example. So, to wake up at eight or nine and just have to juggle or show my breakfast to the kids. It's amazing.

Interviewer: Right now you work as a Spanish teacher and also for Mimmy. How easy is it for you to travel because of the type of work you do?

Jordi: Super easy. I mean, the main thing I do is highlining. Actually, a month ago I got sponsored, so I’m officially a professional now! So, my main focus is to highline. Actually, it's what drives me to keep on traveling. I want to keep on progressing, keep on getting better and training.

About the highline; I don't know if you're familiar with climbing, but when you’re climbing, you can go in one day. You just go to the spot, you climb, you finish the climb, and at the end of the day you are home. But highlining doesn't work like this. Highlining depends on some places. It takes you one or two days just to set up the line, just to rig the line. So you’ve got to stay longer there. It's not a one or two day thing. So, for me, to be able to be there the whole time with the van, it's amazing.

Now with the kinds of jobs I have, they allows me to be present all the time. This work  allows me to keep on moving around, keep on traveling, and I don't have to be in one fixed place to work an eight hour or ten hour job. So that, for me, is amazing. It's awesome.

Interviewer: How easy do you find our system?

Jordi: For me, everything is good. It's quite easy. It's quite useful. The only thing that's not for me, because I don't plan much, is that I have to book the content like two weeks or one and a half weeks before. The rest is amazing; to just create the content and submit it and book it. Actually, I've been here since I think March of 2021, and I was  here when you were using the Line app and all the other booking systems. I think with Slack now it’s amazing. The only thing for me is that we have to book about two weeks before, and it’s a little bit hard. That’s why this week I didn’t book anything, because two weeks ago I didn’t know that I would be here, and I didn’t know if I was going to have a good connection; this is the only bad thing for me. If I could book like 2 or 3 days before the adventure, it’d be amazing. But I know you guys have to promote it and everything, so it’s not possible.

Interviewer: What do you think the kids get out of attending your adventures?

Jordi: I think they discover the world with me. I show them many different places, and I show them a different lifestyle. Not everyone would want to live in a van. There are pros and there are some cons as well, but I think I give them motivation to move around the world and to be adventurers, basically.

Interviewer: How does it make you feel to know that you are motivating kids to be more adventurous?

Jordi: amazing. I’m super happy to be able to show them my lifestyle, and hopefully in 15 or 20 years some kids may want to start living in a van, exploring the world, being more adventurous and going out of the mainstream; because what I do is not that common, and it would be nice to have some kids go this way. It’s a very nice way to live; for me it’s amazing. I’m passionate about what I do, and I want to show them.

Interviewer: How do you think you can shape the future of the kids who watch your adventures?

Jordi: I don’t think of myself as a role model, but of course I try to behave and show them a good side of myself, because I know I am influencing them. As for how I can influence them for the future; hopefully they can learn life through my adventures, they can learn a new passion. For me, what drives me forward is the passion to keep on getting better, to progress, to be a better me every day. So I hope I can influence them with that, and help them find a passion, and take this passion and just go forward.

Interviewer: How do you think that your adventures help the kids have a feeling of Spanish culture?

Jordi: I’m trying to do my best, but lately I haven’t shown them much about Spanish culture, because this last year I haven’t been in Spain much. But I think my adventures help them learn not only about Spanish culture, but other cultures. I think I show them through food, through languages - for example, I did a language learning adventure, and I think they could see a lot of similarities between different languages in Europe. I think my adventures help them realize the similarities between the different cultures here, and different countries.

Interviewer: In the future, do you want the kids to visit Spain and to see the country in person?

Jordi: For sure, it would be amazing. I think one of the kids for example already visited, because he knows a lot of places. I definitely think Spain is a very nice country to visit. The culture is nice, the food is nice, the weather is nice, so why not visit Spain? It’s a little bit far from Japan, but I think it’s a really nice place.

Interviewer: When you first joined us, was there anything that put you off applying?

Jordi: Not really. I saw on Instagram from Luis (another guide) that you guys were looking for people, and from that I actually didn’t know much about what it was. I think you guys contacted me, and through that I learnt what it was. I went in without any expectations and I was just like, I am going to do the interview, and if it works, cool. And if not, it’s not a problem.

Interviewer: If someone was thinking about applying to Mimmy and they weren’t sure about it, do you have a message for them?

Jordi: Yes, if you’ve never done this kind of job before, is a nice way to try. I think it’s pretty fun. It’s not that much work. It’s pretty carefree. I mean, we have to be a little bit organized, but that is the minimum you can ask for in a job, I think. I think it’s a super cool job, and if anyone is interested, they should give it a try. It’s not like you have a 6-month contract and you have to be present every day. Just try it, and if you don’t like it, just quit. It’s that easy!

Interviewer: If any of your friends told you that they were thinking of joining, what would you say to them?

Jordi: It’s a nice way to keep on travelling, and at least to keep gas in the van or buy some food! It’s a good way to do it!

Interviewer: Do you have a message for the kids?

Jordi: That I’m happy to show them my adventures and my lifestyle. I hope to get more kids to join my adventures, and to keep on showing them cool stuff and inspire them.
